Syria, 2 Pounds (Lira) 1996

Syria’s 2 pound coin, sometimes known also as lira, for 1996 combines the country’s Arab present and Roman past. The obverse shows the Hawk of Quraish, widely used on flags and coins in the Arabian Peninsula, and which is an important symbol of Arabism. On the reverse is the Roman Theatre at Bosra in the south west of the country near the border with Jordan. The theatre was built in the latter half of the second century and even back then it could sit 17,000. It is now one of the best preserved monuments of its kind in what was the Roman Empire.

Sudan, 1 Dinar 1994

Sudan, 1 Dinar 1994

We don’t often come across coins from Sudan, but we can now offer this brass 1 dinar coin from 1994. The dinar circulated between 1992 and 2007 and was significant in that it was one of the very few currencies that never had any official subdivision. The obverse of this rather plain coin depicts the Central Bank of Sudan Building, with the denomination and the Islamic year 1415, which corresponds to 1994 AD.

Estonia, 5 Coin Set Before The Euro Brilliant Unc_obv

Estonia, 5 Coin Set Before The Euro Brilliant Unc

Estonia, while quite an old country, has not been issuing coins for all that long, really only since the breakup of the Russian group of countries. This is a five-coin set in the early 2000s. They are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and the denominations are 10, 20 (twice) & 50 Senti, and 1 Kroon. We have been to their capital Tallin a few times and it is a wonderful city. The old part of town has been rebuilt and is a great tourist attraction. Five coin sets of Brilliant Uncirculated Estonian coins.
